Serena Williams is a fantastic athlete and an inspiration for many. I just wish she were more inclusive.

At the ESPY Awards 2024 ceremony, viewers and attendees saw tennis legend Serena Williams serve as the first African American female host (a wonderful milestone) who largely did a bang-up job!

It’s common for award show hosts to roast some of the attendees, so some jabs are to be expected. For example, Williams threw some shade at her friends Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

No problem.

And she was joined by sister Venus Williams and “Abbott Elementary” star Quinta Brunson for a humorous “seminar” on how people can enjoy women’s sports.

Again, no problem. Great, in fact.

But then…

What was a good-natured segment highlighting the value of as well as the rise in popularity of women’s sports took a venomous turn.

ESPY Awards Show attendees and viewers got to see what a culture dominated by regressive, intolerant bigotry would look like. (Actually, the culture is increasingly dominated by such voices). The moment came when Williams…
