Why Care About the Planet?

Is it to safeguard human lives — or something else?

Start with why. That’s the dictum that helped make bestselling author Simon Sinek quite famous. And understandably so. It’s important that, when it comes to any cause or endeavor, we start with why.

Why should we care? Why should we make the sacrifices or expend the energy necessary to achieve whatever goal or vision has been put before us? We always need to start with why.

So, I ask you, when it comes to our planet, why should we care about the environment? Why should we care about climate change? Why should we care about population rates and all that?

Why?

Now, before I’m misunderstood, let me quickly say that I wholeheartedly support environmental stewardship. We live on this planet and we should take care of it.

But I know my “why.”

My “why” is simple: I care about this planet because I care about life — starting with human life. And while I do care about animal life as well, I put human life at the top of my priority list.

Ultimately, we should care about this planet because we should care about human life.

What’s your “why”?
