When You Lose Your Compassion, You Lose Your Humanity
Too many people have lost theirs
The news that former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of metastatic prostate cancer has been met with predictable reactions from many on the political right, ranging from scorn and mockery to various conspiracy theories.
I am not questioning that Joe Biden’s health, especially his cognitive health, was a matter of valid concern. But the Democratic Party, understanding this, did push him aside when it became obvious. And the American people registered their input at the recent election. Whatever your thoughts are about that, the point is…
The election is over. Joe Biden’s presidency is over. He is now a civilian.
And yet…
Some people still can’t find it in themselves to just be compassionate.
To just be human.
This isn’t simply on the right.
I’ve seen numerous examples from the left on social media, and right here on Medium, of people calling for or cheering for the demise of people they bitterly detest.
Whether it comes from the left or the right, hate is always wrong.
Always.
