When Murder Becomes Acceptable, Civilization is Imperiled

If we can’t agree that murder is wrong, we’re in big trouble

It’s astonishing and deeply troubling that our world is full of people who believe that murder and even terrorism are justified in certain situations.

Yes, there have always been people who believe this. Sadly.

But it seems more people are saying this openly than perhaps ever before.

Merriam-Webster’s lead definition of murder is:

“the crime of unlawfully and unjustifiably killing a person”

Note the key adjectives “unlawfully” and “unjustifiably.” The first adjective speaks to accountability (or the lack thereof) whereas the second deals with motive.

But before we even get to debating what constitutes “lawful” or “unlawful” or who decides what is “justifiable”…

Can we pause and agree that “killing a person” is tragic?

That it should be avoided if at all possible?
