Whatever Happened to Mercy?

“Let not mercy and truth forsake thee” -King Solomon (Proverbs 3:3, KJV)

A brief glance at social media today makes obvious one of the most troubling crises in our society: We’re losing any sense of mercy.

This crisis is not just evident on social media, but in everyday relations in our society. We would rather condemn or cancel each other than listen to each other. And many of our fellow Americans seem alarmingly incapable of handling disagreement in any kind of constructive or helpful manner.

We’re all about truth (or at least “our truth”) and exercise very little grace or mercy.

In reality, you can’t really have truth without mercy and humility.

And the two go hand in hand.

Of course, you can’t really have the truth so long as we continue to embrace the postmodernist nonsense of “your truth” or “our truth,” but that’s for another article.

The bottom line: You can’t have truth without mercy or humility.

Why? Because we’re all human and thus imperfect. And therefore…

We all, at least at times, fall short of the truth.

That means we must be personally humble and more gracious with one another.

So, how about it?

Let’s incorporate more grace and humility into our attitude, our outlook, our habits, and our relationships.
