We Should All Care About Ukraine

If we can’t agree on this, we probably won’t agree on anything

Set aside your political leanings, your party or movement affiliations, your frustration with the news media, and any cynicism you may have toward your government, and tap into your basic humanity.

I’m not asking you to think as a Republican or Democrat, conservative or liberal, libertarian or socialist, or as a Biden voter or Trump supporter. Your age, race, gender, sexual orientation, net worth, or COVID vaccination status are not at issue here — at least they shouldn’t be.

I’m speaking to you as a human being.

And I’m asking you to see the people of Ukraine as fellow human beings.

Can you do that?

It seems that, for many Americans, the answer is no.

There are people in Russia — you know, the country invading Ukraine — who care more about Ukraine than some people in America. And I salute those people of Russia courageously speaking up (at great risk to themselves) in opposition to this senseless war.

Lest I be misunderstood, I’m not advocating any specific political or foreign policy initiative with this article.
