“This isn’t just about Politics. This is about Good versus Evil!”
Can we disagree with people without demonizing them?
Years ago, as I was starting to develop an awareness of politics, my dad cautioned me not to see everyone who disagreed with me as either evil or ignorant.
As a child, I didn’t fully understand. I mean it was simple: “They’re wrong, Dad!”
Dad tried to patiently explain what a child’s mind couldn’t fully process, which is that people are complex. They have different personalities, backgrounds, experiences, and priorities. And their thought processes are different. And thus…
Not everyone will see the world, life, or politics the way I do.
“Okay, Dad,” I think I said and went back to playing with my Lincoln Logs.
Now that I’m 55 years old and look around social media, I totally “get” what my dad said years ago. (Though, to be clear, I “got” it by the time I hit my teen years). What’s alarming is…
Too many biological adults have the minds of children (at least when it comes to politics).
They are 100% confident that everything they believe is right and anyone who disagrees with them is wrong.
