There’s More to People Than Their Political Views
Stop with the dehumanization!
There was a time in America when people could disagree on politics and still respect one another as people.
I wish we could bring those times back.
Instead, we’re stuck in this insane madness of reducing people to the sum of their political views and votes. If they support our tribe, then they’re worthy of respect. If they vote for (or their opinions line up with) “the other,” then they warrant nothing but our contempt.
This is the kind of mindset that leads to deeper polarization and violence.
Not to mention personal anxiety and all kinds of mental health issues.
We weren’t made to carry this kind of nonstop outrage. We weren’t meant to sort everyone into heroes and villains based on a social media post, a yard sign, or a voting record.
If all you can do is call people with whom you disagree “bigots,” then frankly, I just want to say back to you: “It takes one to know one.”
Not only that, but you’re part of the problem — not the solution.
Here’s the reality…
People are complex. They’re more than a party affiliation. They’re neighbors. Co-workers. Parents. Friends. Fellow human beings…
