“There is no universal truth”

Really? Is THAT a universal truth?

One of the publications here on Medium currently includes this statement as part of its “about” info:

But there is no universal truth: History is just a bunch of personal interpretations filtered through time.

Now, I mean no disrespect or any personal criticism toward the people who are behind this publication. This is why I’m not calling anyone out by name. On the contrary, I appreciate their interest in history and desire to bring historical lessons to the forefront.

It’s just that I have a problem with this deconstructionist, relativistic nonsense. We’ve been fed this postmodernist rubbish, from so many quarters, for the last several decades — and it never ceases to grate on me.

To say “there is no universal truth” is logically contradictory. The very statement itself is framed as a truth claim — and a “universal” one at that.

This statement goes on to assert that history is “just a bunch of personal interpretations filtered through time.” Let’s walk that assertion out logically, shall we?

To say that history is “just a bunch of personal interpretations filtered through time” is itself an interpretation.
