“There is no God” and “Humans Are Spiritual”
What passes for logic these days
“There is no God. Humans are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
This was the comment left by someone in response to one of my recent articles. What strikes me first is the brazen absolutism that leaves no room for humility or possibilities.
Whether we’re talking about people of faith or people without faith, here’s a truism: Absolutist thinking absent any humility or self-reflection adds nothing of value to intellectual or philosophical discourse.
What I find particularly incredible about this particular commenter is how they open themselves up to a logical contradiction. Here is the statement again:
“There is no God. Humans are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
Let me get this straight: There is no God, and humans are…what!?
Explain spiritual.
And, after you’ve done that, can you say your quote again? Say it slowly.
While this person has done little to elaborate on their thinking, I’m going to guess that they are coming from a pantheist or panentheist perspective based on this quote.
