The United States of America is Fragile

We must handle it with care

The United States of America is a fragile country. Yet, watching the news these days, I feel like some of our leaders jostle it around with the carelessness of a rough-handed courier tossing a fragile package into the back of a truck!

This has certainly been particularly noticeable since the beginning of Trump 2.0, but the problems go deeper.

We are a nation of increasingly impatient, anxious, and uncivil people working with a system of government that depends on patience, civility, and the rule of law.

One of the hallmark features of the United States government is the separation of powers and our system of checks and balances. This has been the case for all of American history.

Our Founding Fathers understood human nature fairly well. They knew that our government needed to be able to not only to “promote the general welfare” and maintain law and order, but that it also must govern and contain itself. Here’s how the “father of the Constitution” put it in The Federalist Papers:
