The Attack on Nancy Pelosi’s Husband Should Be a Wake-up Call to All Of Us
Unfortunately, I fear hatred is here to stay in American politics — and it will destroy us
A man demanding to see U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi broke into her private residence and viciously attacked her 82-year-old husband with a hammer. Paul Pelosi is now in the hospital, after being treated for injuries, including surgery on a skull fracture.
The intruder showed up uninvited, demanding: “Where is Nancy?” Apparently, he was going to tie up the House Speaker’s husband until she arrived. When police arrived, he attacked Mr. Pelosi.
While an investigation is underway and more facts will likely come to light, it is clear that an act of unjustified violence has taken place — and it was in the context of our nation’s bitter political divide.
Hatred, vitriol, slander, threats, intimidation, trespassing, vandalism, and violence are becoming more common in American politics. And it should alarm us, sicken us, and make us determined to do better!
