Resistance is Futile: The Inevitability of AI Art
This won’t be a debate next decade
Do you hate AI art? If so, you are not alone. There are many people — many! — who loathe, despise, and fear the rise of AI technology, especially as it relates to AI art.
DC just announced its pulling of three covers due to the suspected use of AI. An indie film is taking heat and drawing calls for boycotts because filmmakers dared to use three AI-generated still images in the production. Legendary actor William Shatner, 93, is enduring online ire because he used AI to generate an album cover.
These are just a handful of the many controversies connected with the rise of AI art. Every day, there are tons of posts or comments on social media denouncing AI art and condemning anyone who uses it.
Influencers who teach others how to effectively use AI are drawing incredible amounts of online hate. Indie authors who can’t afford to higher professional artists for their book covers are being condemned (in some cases, arguably blackballed) for the use of AI covers.
Some of this hate and fear is understandable. There is no question that, as AI art gets more advanced, it poses a serious existential threat to professional artists. It has already negatively impacted the freelance artist community.
