Religion and Politics Are Important, but I’m Tired of All the Anger and Fighting

Are online discussions about such topics even worth it anymore?

I’m tired.

Not physically tired so much as emotionally tired.

Drained.

Exhausted.

Discouraged.

That’s how I feel when I look at the news and on social media — particularly when matters of politics or religion are concerned.

It’s like we’ve lost both the desire and the capacity to care about others and to listen to them. We only care about how we feel and what we believe. And woe to be anyone who stands in our way.

And I have an honest question.

I know religion and politics are important. Very important. But are we accomplishing anything positive or worthwhile anymore when we talk (er…argue) about these things online?

All we do is get ourselves upset and others upset. People dig in their heels. We get hurt. And we hurt others.

I don’t consider that progress. I don’t consider that constructive.

The exception to this is when conversations are private. When that is the case…. then, sometimes, progress can happen.
