Regarding testimony, my article argues that personal experiences and feelings do not determine truth. I stand by that.
This, however, doesn't mean that a witness's credibility is irrelevant when it comes to our pursuit of the truth. If I'm examining a particular religion or worldview to see if it's something I should embrace, the credibility of the adherents will certainly factor into my intellectual or spiritual journey. It's just that I can't jump from "This witness is a hypocrite, therefore everything they said is 100% false." Nor can I say "Well, the last 5 Christians I met let me down, therefore Jesus isn't real." It would be a non sequitur.
As far as "everyone thinks that their understanding is a 'Bible based' one," I disagree. There are many churches and professing Christians who regard the Bible as merely one way God speaks to us -- if that. Some churches and professing Christians have deconstructed the Bible so much that it barely survives as a legitimate source of, well, anything.
I'm not saying that all Bible based churches or Christians agree on how they interpet the Bible in every way. I never said that or implied that. But a "Bible based" church is a church that strives to base its beliefs and practices on the Bible. Those churches are shrinking...at least in the West.
