Praying for Afghanistan

Sometimes all you can do is pray

My heart breaks for the people of Afghanistan.

Not only are we witnessing one of the worst foreign policy debacles in modern American history, we are also watching tens of millions of men, women, and children plunge into a nightmare of brutality and misery.

Three groups of people in Afghanistan will suffer (and are suffering) the most:

  • Women
  • Christians
  • Supporters of the US and the US-backed, now collapsed, Afghan government

These aren’t the only ones who will suffer, but they will bear the brunt of it.

Since the United States government has all but abandoned these people to their fate, all we can do is watch with horror….and pray.

I realize not all of you share my Christian faith, but now is a time to get on our knees and pray to God for the people of Afghanistan.

They need our prayers.

To be sure, they need more than just our prayers.

And I hope that all those on the ground in Afghanistan working to save as many lives as they can and mitigate as much suffering as they can are successful. I do. And I pray for their safety as well.

But for most of us, all we can do (for now) is pray.

So let’s do so.
