People Should Be Reasonable or Be Quiet

And this is true with relationships, business, justice, religion, and politics

We need less noise and more reason, and we need that in every area and corner of our society. And we need it before it’s too late.

People being unreasonable is one of the reasons why marriages fail, families suffer, workplaces turn toxic, communities break apart, and nations fall.

I’m sick and tired of pundits, politicians, activists, podcasters, Medium writers, social media influencers, religious leaders, and everyday people extolling the supposed virtues of outrage and radicalism and condemning those of us who desire rational civil discourse.

Just today, in the comments of an article that a fellow Medium writer wrote calling for more moderation, some smug commenter chimed in: “We’ve been ‘reasonable’ about the climate, racism, income inequality, and that is why they are still problems.”

As if being reasonable is the culprit for all our problems.

Here’s the top definition of “reason” according to Dictionary.com:

agreeable to reason or sound judgment; logical

And what exactly is bad about this?
