Life is messy. And families are messy — all of them. There’s not a single perfect family on planet Earth. Though some are certainly messier and more dysfunctional than others. Nevertheless…

Messiness and difficulty must not cancel out wisdom nor our desire to strive for excellence.

Why? Because the stakes are high.

Families are the building blocks of society.

That’s a commonly used phrase I’m sure you’ve heard. It’s commonly heard because it’s absolutely true.

When families thrive and succeed, it can have a ripple effect that benefits society as a whole. Conversely, when families suffer or fail, that has a negative and adverse effect on our communities.

Therefore, we need strong, healthy, loving families. And we should all do our part to achieve that. And therefore, as a general rule:

  • Parents need to love, protect, and provide for their children.
  • Children need to love, honor, and respect their parents.
