Not to nit-pick, but this is an assumption. Speaking for myself, I always get uncomfortable when people play around with religious symbolism. It doesn't mean I fly off the handle, but some things should be left alone. I believe there are many who feel as I do.
Also... I think we're being naive if we don't believe that, on at least some level, the artistic mind(s) behind the Olympic opening cermony weren't trying to be provocative.
So, if the artistic intention was to provoke, and people were...well...provoked... let's not be surprised by that.
