No Speech Deserves Bullets

To disagree with that is to disagree with civilization

If you believe that it’s acceptable to silence a controversial or offensive human being with bullets, you are a hateful person who has embraced evil and renounced civilization.

I agree with former President Barack Obama who posted in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s murder that “this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy.”

Sadly, there are despicable people right here on Medium defending such violence. And many more spreading their poison on social media.

To celebrate, affirm, or endorse the murder of another human being — whether we’re talking about conservative commentator Charlie Kirk or Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman — is evil.

The difference between me and those cheering violence is that I don’t wish them harm. I want their hearts to change. Because only love, as Martin Luther King said, can drive out hate.

Why? Because I agree with the apostle Paul that we should “overcome evil with good,” and because I understand this simple principle…
