My Jesus Isn’t Like Your Jesus

Yeah, well, there is no such thing!

There are so many articles here on Medium challenging the biblical depiction of Jesus and contrasting that Jesus with their Jesus. It’s undeniable that their Jesus (typically a Jesus that today’s liberals and progressives love to rally around) is, at least on Medium, much more popular than the biblical Jesus.

Indeed, I can’t count the number of Medium articles that challenge the New Testament portrayal of Jesus — including the theological arguments of Paul. Oh yeah, Paul is … yucky!

Theological liberals and progressives don’t need Paul. They don’t want Paul — unless Paul agrees with them, of course, which is increasingly rare. No. Down with Paul.

But popularity has no bearing on the truth. A majority can be wrong. That is most certainly the case when it comes to arguments over Jesus here on Medium. Yet it’s very difficult to reason with these alternative Jesus people.

Picture this conversation:

Liberals/Progressives: Just give us Jesus. No Paul. No judgmental, exclusionary Bible verses. No organized religion. Just Jesus.

People like me: Okay, just Jesus. Got it. Let’s turn to Revelation…
