It’s Not Verbal Violence Just Because Someone Offends or Upsets You

Sometimes, you need to get over it

Someone doesn’t approve of you — who you are, what you’re doing, what you believe? Someone disagrees with you? Someone has said something that upsets you? Or makes you really angry?

Three words…

Get over it.

Whether we’re talking about a parent, politician, professor, pastor, partner, or just a plain ordinary person you encounter…

Not everyone is going to like you, affirm you, agree with you, or accept you for who you are, how you live, or what you do.

Get over it.

One of the worst things you can do is claim it’s “verbal violence” and then use that categorization to justify actual violence against that person. Or a suppression of their personal autonomy and freedom of expression.

Do those things and you are on the path of bigotry and oppression that you supposedly stand against.

Yes, I know that some people can be obnoxious, outrageous, and offensive.

That’s life.

Get over it.

By now, I’m sure a few of you are quite upset with this article. You probably find “get over it”…
