I Tried to Produce Images of Biblical Figures with AI Art (And the Results Were Mixed)
Can Artificial Intelligence make quality biblical art? Well…
If you’ve spent much time on the Internet, you’ve undoubtedly heard about AI art. We are in the midst of something of an artistic revolution. And for wannabe artists like myself… it’s awesome!
I would love to be an artist — a good one, that is. But that’s not one of the talents God saw fit to give me. Still, I’ve been able to use AI art software to generate some cool results.
I’ve had the most success with scenery, landscapes, cartoons, and digital renders. Animals and people have been challenging. They can get glitchy. They sometimes have limbs they shouldn’t, or (in some cases) are strangely missing limbs. And the faces can be distorted. And the hands…well, the hands often look downright weird.
And when it comes to historical images, the AI software I’ve tried doesn’t seem to understand the history that well. I guess the software is still learning.
I’ve mainly experimented with Graiphics and Jasper — but I’ve also played around with DALL-E and MidJourney. I find the former to be easier to work with and they seem to produce (overall) better results. At least for me.
A few days ago, I thought I would try biblical art — specifically images of people from the Bible. Most of my attempts didn’t work out. As I said, the AI software options don’t seem to have a lot of historical “knowledge.” They seem more attuned to abstract and fantasy art as well as landscapes, modern scenery, and so forth.
Still…I was able to get a few interesting hits. And here they are…
