I don't ever walk up to someone and tell them they are going to hell--certainly not in those words.

The concept of hell has certainly been used to manipulate, control, and abuse people. I don't question that.

At the same time...

The important question isn't whether talk of hell is hate speech. The most important question is whether there is good reason to believe that hell is real.

If hell is real, then it's not "hate speech" to warn people about it.

It IS "hate speech" to tell people they're going there and you're glad of it.
