I agree with most of your article, but... I think too many Christians these days are too quick to dismiss this saying.

There is some biblical merit to it. You can't find the saying in one single verse but when you understand Jesus' command to "love your neighbor" and then analyze the following verses...

"Hate evil, love good." -Amos 5:15a

"You who love the Lord, hate evil! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked." -Psalm 97:10

"The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate." -Proverbs 8:13

I could keep going. There are many.

Clearly, we are told in the Bible to love people and, at the same time, to hate evil. So...

The saying has some merit.
