Everybody Should Have These Freedoms
These are non-negotiable
I wish everyone had a happy, healthy, and safe life. In fact, I wish everyone could live forever. I wish there was no death and that suffering didn’t exist.
No one should be racist or bigoted. No one should hate. People shouldn’t be selfish. Everyone should be kind and compassionate.
But… we don’t live in heaven. Not yet. We certainly don’t live in Dreamland.
We live on planet Earth and in the dimension of reality.
We live in an imperfect world populated by imperfect people. And it’s a world full of variables outside of our control.
We, therefore, have to make the best of what we have. To use a poker analogy, we have to deal with the hands we’ve been dealt. Therefore, nation-states must be predicated on reality and governments must make policies based on facts and reason.
And that means governments must safeguard their citizens — all of whom are (first and foremost) individuals — the best they can. And governments should protect their citizens’ rights to carve out their lives as they see fit.
