Doesn't change ANYONE or ANYTHING? That's a bold statement -- one that cannot possibly be established beyond a reasonable doubt.

I don't remember all the sermons I've ever heard. Who can? But I do remember several. Some of them most certainly had an impact on me.

You're correct that our churches are full of bored people who don't get a lot of church, but is that an indictment on the sermon -- or on the commitment level of the average churchgoer? Or maybe, in some cases, a combination of the two? But...

To make some across-the-board statement that argues that sermons don't "change anyone or anything" in any churches today... that is going way, way beyond the evidence.

What's more, most of your analysis says nothing to generations that grew up in different times. Are you going to say that the sermons of George Whitefield, Jonathan Edwards, or DL Moody weren't effective? That they didn't change ANYONE or ANYTHING?
