Do You Test Your Beliefs?
If you don’t, you’re more dangerous than helpful
Everyone has opinions and beliefs. Look at the news, hang out with friends and family, and spend time on social media — and you’ll see that people are quite committed to their beliefs. And yet…
How many people test their beliefs?
It’s one thing to have untested preferences or opinions. Why? Because the stakes aren’t that high and you (at least in the opinion of this writer) should have the right to live your life generally as you see fit.
Don’t like shrimp? I would say there’s something wrong with you :-), but okay. Don’t eat shrimp. Same with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or lima beans or pork chops or … you get the idea. (Actually, I’m with you on not liking lima beans).
You should have the right to choose what to eat and drink, where to live, what color to paint the walls in your house, what career to pursue, how much money you want to earn, what TV shows to watch, and on and on.
When it comes to your lifestyle, have your opinions and preferences. Make your choices. Do you need to be a little bit flexible and accommodating when other people are involved? Absolutely, but in general, live the life you want to live.
