Can Someone Please Explain to Hamas the Meaning of the Term “Ceasefire”?

Or is only one party expected to honor such an agreement?

Breaking news today (November 30, 2023) out of Jerusalem:

Three people were killed and multiple people wounded at a shooting in Jerusalem. The attackers intentionally targeted civilian noncombatants in this deadly shooting spree.

Hamas has since taken credit.

Oh, by the way, this happened during an official ceasefire.

Yes, you read that right. Hamas-affiliated gunmen fired on civilians during a ceasefire. And Hamas took full credit for it!

Either someone needs to explain to Hamas the meaning of the word “ceasefire” or…

They know full well what a ceasefire means and they never had any intention of honoring it. They just want Israel to cease firing.

Now, before all the angry comments roll in, I’m not affirming or defending everything the Israeli government has ever done or is doing.

All I’m saying is that parties to an agreement, especially a ceasefire agreement, should faithfully carry out and adhere to such an agreement.

When a party violates such an agreement, that party warrants censure.

And if we’re talking about a ceasefire agreement (we are) being broken by the intentional, deliberate murder of civilian noncombatants (and we are), then…

That guilty party (in this case, Hamas) deserves worldwide condemnation.
