Be Informed — Not Immersed

Follow the news but don’t fall into it!

We are more informed and more connected than any previous generation in world history. The human race is also arguably more angry and anxious than at any time in history.

Why?

Because we’re not just informed — we’re immersed.

And it’s drowning us.

Let’s take the news.

Today’s news media don’t just deliver information. They deliver:

  • Outrage
  • Adrenaline
  • Tribal loyalty
  • Panic
  • Resentment

Media outlets (whether we’re talking legacy media, alternative media, or just your everyday person with a cell phone trying to get an audience) put out whatever content gets you clicking and coming back for more.

And that means… emotion!

They don’t want you to think. They want you to react.

Oh, and Medium writers (particularly on topics related to religion and politics) play the same game.

You see, you’re not just a viewer or reader. No, you’re a product. A data point. A reliable source of engagement to bring in more money to the content…
