The examples she shares — particularly the anecdote about the conversation between a mother and her grown son — demonstrate that many people have indeed crossed that line.

Today, countless people believe (with a straight face) all kinds of wild and crazy things:

• Shape-shifting reptilians
• The moon landing in 1969 was a hoax.
• Paul McCartney is dead. He was replaced by a look-alike.
• Aircraft condensation trails are sinister “chemtrails”

And on and on. We live in the Age of QAnon and Craziness.

There is plenty of craziness to go around. Unsubstantiated conspiracy theories and unproven ideological claims don’t reside on just the left or the right…
