55 Years, 55 Insights
Wisdom Gained From a Little Over Half a Century

Yesterday was my 55th birthday. I’m grateful to God and the people who have been a part of my (slightly over) half-century life on this wonderful planet. While I’m far from the brightest bulb in the lamp, I’ve picked up a few things over the years, and if you’ll indulge me…
I want to share 55 key insights, observations, truths, principles, or life lessons I’ve learned. This list is not all-inclusive of my beliefs or observations, but it’s a good picture of who I am and how I see the world.
Here is my list (in no particular order):
- Life isn’t about stuff. It’s about relationships.
- Life is short and it’s fragile.
- Don’t take your parents (or grandparents, aunts, uncles, or any family member) for granted. You won’t always have them with you.
- One thing people can’t take from you is your integrity.
- Tell the truth — even if it hurts.
- Build your life around those who will be crying at your funeral.
- Don’t base your self-esteem on the opinions of other people.
- No one is perfect. Everyone has flaws.
- Everyone has their own problems and challenges.
