“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” (Proverbs 4:7, KJV)

I love the ancient book of Proverbs. It’s the greatest collection of wisdom sayings ever written. And its overriding theme is that we need to continually acquire knowledge and wisdom.

For this reason, I love soaking up knowledge. I love reading, watching or attending informative lectures, and listening to people full of knowledge and wisdom.

And I’m a big fan of collecting and memorizing thought-provoking quotes and pithy sayings — especially those found in the Bible. But also from philosophers, theologians, and leaders throughout history in general.

In that spirit, I wanted to offer up 53 wisdom sayings of my own for your consideration and enjoyment.

Why 53? Well, this week was my 53rd birthday.

And why read wisdom sayings from me? Good question. You don’t have to. :-)

I’m no King Solomon or Marcus Aurelius or Benjamin Franklin. And reading this collection of (hopefully) wise sayings from yours truly is no substitute for prayer, professional therapy, or wise counsel from someone who knows you and/or who is an expert in the areas you are specifically seeking to address in your life.

Nevertheless, as someone who has a passion to acquire knowledge and wisdom (and who has read almost 500 books in the last 5 years), I believe I have a few things to offer.

I can at least offer you some things to think about.

These wisdom sayings are written by yours truly, but most of them are based on concepts, ideas, and principles that have been around a while and have stood the test of time.

What’s more, I make no claim that I personally live up to all these wisdom sayings on a consistent basis. I am human and fall short. Nevertheless, I strive to exemplify this wisdom in my life.

Finally, they are not offered in any particular order of importance. They are provided in, more or less, random order. It’s up to you, the reader, to take the ones that work for you.
