This is my 500th article. Yep. 500 articles on Medium. I know Medium calls them “stories,” but that’s always been awkward for me. A story is…well… a story. It’s not an essay or an article. But anyway…I digress…

For my 500th article, I wanted to make it special. So I decided to share some things I’ve learned.

I’ve been writing on Medium since 2018. I’ve written articles on multiple topics, including faith, personal development, communication skills, leadership, history, technology, and more. And yes, I have written stories — as in fictional stories.

In that time, I’ve learned a few lessons. Here they are:

1) Write because you enjoy writing and can’t imagine not writing.

Writing is more than a hobby for me. It’s a calling. It’s as if the keyboard calls to me — and I must write. It truly is a means of personal expression. Not just casual expression, but passionate (almost mandatory) personal expression. I write because I must write.

If that’s you, write with that in mind — with the passion and calling in mind.
