On March 30, 2023, a Manhattan grand jury indicted former U.S. President Donald Trump on 30 counts of business fraud. This is the first time in American history that a former President of the United States has faced criminal charges.

At the time of this writing, the indictment is under seal and so the specifics of the charges are not yet known, though they are expected to be released in the coming days. And they reportedly stem from alleged hush money payouts to a porn star that Trump possibly had an affair with.

Donald Trump is one of the most divisive political figures in American history. And as one can imagine, this indictment has ignited a firestorm. Trump’s opponents and detractors are cheering. Trump’s supporters are outraged.

Everyone seems to have an opinion.

My purpose in writing this article is neither to cheer nor criticize the indictment. And I take no position here on Donald Trump himself.
