3 Ancient Proverbs to Help You Be a Better Listener

Even though civilization has advanced considerably since ancient times, there’s still a tremendous amount of wisdom to be mined from history.

Here are three (3) examples of such wisdom when it comes to the important topic of listening:

Nature has given us two ears, two eyes, and but one tongue; to that end, we should hear and see more than we speak. -Greek Proverb

I remember my mom saying this to me a few times growing up. I don’t think she was aware this was an ancient Greek proverb. No matter. It’s great advice.

We have four features (two eyes, two ears) on our heads designed to receive information and only one specifically designed to deliver it. We should arguably listen and learn with four times the intention and energy as we speak.

We’d be better off — as would the people in our lives.

Silence is a source of great strength -Lao Tzu

Many people believe they have to speak up to be heard and get noticed. They feel that the more they speak, the stronger or more effective they will be. And yet…
