The Book Of Proverbs is a collection of “wisdom writings” found in the Ketuvim, the third section of the Jewish Scriptures, and in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. Judeo-Christian tradition holds that King Solomon is the principal author of the book, though others contributed to and helped collect and compile its contents.

Even those who do not embrace Judaism or Christianity acknowledge that the Book Of Proverbs contains a wealth of wisdom that has stood the test of time. Anyone aspiring to be a more effective leader would do well to read and study this great book.

Strictly speaking, the Bible proverbs highlighted below do not exclusively pertain to leadership, but they are certainly applicable to anyone who wishes to become a more effective leader.

Here then are ten Bible proverbs that every leader should know:

1) “[L]et the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance…” -Proverbs 1:5

2) “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” -Proverbs 3:27

3) “Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers.” -Proverbs 4:14

4) “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” -Proverbs 4:23

5) “Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.” -Proverbs 4:24

6) “A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.” -Proverbs 11:13

7) “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.” -Proverbs 12:1

8) “Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.” -Proverbs 13:10

9) “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” -Proverbs 13:20
